07.25.2005 | another book
ok i finished Deception Point. Pretty good, but not one i’d put in my top 10. almost done with my list for the summer tho! here’s the updated one:
The Ultimate Hitchiker?s Guide to the Galaxy
Angels & Demons
Deception Point
Harry Potter 6
Things Fall Apart
A Tale of Two Cities
Digital Fortress
The Curious Incident of the Dog in Nighttime
and whatever else i find lol
i took Catch-22 off of the list cuz i don’t like it. which means i only have….3 books left!
other than books, i found out yesterday that my roomie changed her mind and isn’t going to Cornell anymore. so now i’m roommate-less which is pretty annoying cuz i HATE suspense. i hope i find out my new one soon, if i even end up getting a new one.
so yeah…that’s about it. i don’t have much else to say. i’m bored out of my mind. i don’t know anyone down here, and i’m sick of staying in the house every day after work. i’m glad i only hafta put up with this for another few weeks…cuz it’s getting annoying.
until next time.
07.18.2005 | photo-a-day and Harry Potter
*warning* this blog may contain SPOILERS for harry potter 6. if you don’t want to know, don’t read. */warning*
well it seems my photo-a-day blog isn’t working out as well as i hoped it would. I have taken at least 1 photo every day, but then i get home from work and find myself lost for time. I haven’t had a chance to put all of the photos on the computer. so maybe i’ll make it into a photo-a-week blog??
Most of my time has been consumed in my continued book-a-thon. I’ve just finished the new Harry Potter. I can’t say that it is one of my favorites, although i did relate to this book more than any of the others (don’t ask, it’s hard to explain). I was quite disappointed @ dumbledore’s naivety and utter blindness to the fact that snape couldn’t be trusted. I figured out that it would be dumbledore who died at the very beginning of the book, and of course, the inevitable romance between ginny and harry was also highly predictable. It seems i enjoyed this book more for J.K. Rowling’s writing style and use of latin in her naming of spells and things. Although, i must say, that knowing what most of the word roots meant unfortunately gave away the spell’s power, thus, killing the suspense for me.
I did, however, enjoy that we got to see dumbledore, not as an aloof professor who watched harry from afar but really never took a direct role in his education (at least not as directly as he did in this book), but as a man of great compassion and caring in addition to his obvious wealth of knowledge and wisdom which he was so quick to share with harry in this book. (which was obviously Rowling’s intention. after all, a writer always wants his/her reader to fall in love or in hate with a character before they are killed off).
the rift between ron and hermione grew old very quickly. i think rowling tried a little to hard to interject some sort of romantic triangle into the story to show the characters as true teenagers.
but all in all, i did enjoy reading it. it was quite a page-turner even though it took about 3/4 of the book to even begin to reach the introduction of some action-packed event.
so the list, as it stands now:
here?s the reading list:
The Ultimate Hitchiker?s Guide to the Galaxy
Angels & Demons
Deception Point
Harry Potter 6
Catch 22
Things Fall Apart
A Tale of Two Cities
Digital Fortress
The Curious Incident of the Dog in Nighttime
and whatever else i find lol
oh, and that reminds me: i attempted to start catch-22. i think i’m about 100 pages in, but i just can’t stand the book anymore. there’s no plot! well, i’m sure there is one SOMEWHERE, but i can’t stand waiting for it anymore. i suppose i’ll check out sparknotes or something to see if one ever develops, and then maybe i’ll delve into that one again, but i think i’m going to start Deception Point tomorrow.
until next time…(which will hopefully be one of my photo blogs)
07.13.2005 | daily recap
today started off as a pretty boring day but concluded in a rather unusual fashion. i went to work today. the beach was EMPTY. no one. the weather was pretty gross, it was hazy for a while but turned into a huge storm. thankfully, i got to go home early cuz of the thunder and lightning! =o) i was walking along the waterline looking for seaglass as usual…and this EPA helicopter hovered over the beach then lowered til it was like 20 ft. over the ocean. it was pretty cool. unfortunately, though, i left my camera up by my stuff and i couldn’t get it in time to take a pic. instead, i took this pic, it’s of all the seaglass i found today. i found a few blues which was pretty cool cuz they’re hard to find. i also found this really cool orange shell. i think you can see it in the pic too. i started reading catch-22 today, but it’s slow going. i keep wanting to doze off. it’s not a very interesting book so far. since there wasn’t anyone on the beach, i didn’t have any interruptions either, so i stopped reading lol.
so like i said, work ended early. i came home, ate lunch, played the sims 2, then my mom called to tell me we were going out to dinner for her friend’s brother’s bday.
so we went…and when i got there, i found out that they had this contest that the restaurant is famous for. You eat their XXL pizza all by urself and u get a tshirt. i thought…ehh, doesn’t sound TOO hard but i’m not in the mood for it. THEN i saw the pizza. the XXL was the same size as a regular pie in bayonne. not only that, but it was PAPER THIN! it was like a cracker! so i said to myself “this is gonna b cake” and i ordered the pizza. an hour or 2 later and with some willpower, i finished it! and i am now a member of the “pete & elda’s whole pizza eater’s club”. that’s a pic of the shirt i got. they have a new one every month or so. i think i might go back before i leave for cornell. i won’t eat another whole pizza unless it’s a new shirt tho =o) so yeah…that was my day. now i’m just sitting here in an attempt to digest. i’m SOOOO full. according to the waitress, i’m going wake up STARVING tomorrow morning, but i doubt it. there’s no WAY i can even think of food.
that does it for my “photo a day” blog. ok, so today was 2 photos, but there were 2 equally important things in my day today: getting off of work early and eating wayyy too much! =o)
until tomorrow’s photo…
07.12.2005 | book-a-thon
ok, so i just finished Digital Fortress. not NEARLY as good as Angels & Demons, but still pretty good. It was missing the trademark Dan Brown page chock full of cool information style. As i read more an more of dan brown’s books (i only have 1 left to read) i’m realizing that he follows the same basic pattern for his plots, which kind of took away from the suspense of this read. i did find it amusing, however, that one of the character’s name was Greg Hale. the irony being that he shared his last name with Nathan Hale, and he, like Nathan, advocated civil liberties, and died for the cause. (give me liberty or give me death…haha)
…just thought i’d point that out.
i think i’m gonna take a break before i run out of books to read. i might switch away from dan brown for a bit. The only book of his i have yet to read is Deception Point, but after reading angels & demons and digital fortress, i think i’m becoming too used to his style. i’ll just read something else, something totally different from the murder mystery type thrillers.
after talking to natalie today, i’ve decided to join her in posting a “photo-a-day blog”. basically, i’m going to take at least 1 photo a day and post it and blog about it. since i work on a beach, odds are most of my pics will be of a day on the beach, but i’ll try to make them all interesting and unique to the specific day.
i think that’s about it for now. i’m still waiting for my housing packet to come in the mail. and apparently the student advisors were included in that as well, so i’m especially anxious. one of my friends actually ended up with the roommate of the girl that hosted us for Cornell Days.
here’s the reading list:
The Ultimate Hitchiker?s Guide to the Galaxy
Angels & Demons
Deception Point
Harry Potter 6
Catch 22
Things Fall Apart
A Tale of Two Cities
Digital Fortress
The Curious Incident of the Dog in Nighttime
and whatever else i find lol
…i think Catch-22 will be next.
until later.
07.11.2005 | another book down
i just finished Angels & Demons…GOOOD BOOK!!! really, one of the best books i’ve read in a long time. it was such a page turner. it felt SO realistic. i couldn’t stop thinking about it when i stopped reading. i fell asleep reading it last night and my dreams were all of the book! it was reallly good. i suggest it to anyone who’s up for a good thriller read.
other than that, nothing else is new… i have off today and tomorrow which is good cuz it’s supposed to be HOT.
here’s my reading list updated:
The Ultimate Hitchiker?s Guide to the Galaxy
Angels & Demons
Deception Point
Harry Potter 6
Catch 22
Things Fall Apart
A Tale of Two Cities
Digital Fortress
The Curious Incident of the Dog in Nighttime
and whatever else i find lol
i still haven’t found my Ultimate Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, i’m quite upset! whatever book i pick next is gonna hafta be short, cuz harry potter will be coming in on the 16th i believe, so i’ll read that as soon as i get it =o)
so thanks to my commenters Amy and Natalie. apparently there’s something wrong with my comments that doesn’t match. i can’t find it, but u do, please tell me! =o)
until later.
