wow… can you believe it? it’s the last day of 2005! it’s insane! happy new year! i hope it’s a great one!
natalie is here. she arrived yesterday, and from the second she got here we were just going crazy with new ideas and adventures. it’s going to quite the productive meeting i think! we went to the beach, found seaglass and stuff, put our feet in the ocean (BAD idea - SOOOOOO cold!) then we went to the boardwalk and played in the arcades and things. then we went to surf taco which is always amazing. after that… we came back to my house and planned out our days in NYC. it’s amazing how much 2 computer/google geeks can accomplish in less than 12 hours! so we plotted out our trip to NYC, where we’re gonna go, which days we’re gonna do what, etc. then we went to barnes and noble and spent 3 hours looking thru NYC tourist guides and roadtrip books, then moved on to looking @ ideas for businesses (oh come on, u had to see THAT coming! lol). then we came home again and stayed up til 5AM brainstorming ideas. if yesterday was any indication of what’s to come, mentes will rule the world one day =o). it was certainly a day full of mentes moments and great ideas. today’s new year’s eve, obviously. we were planning to go to long beach island, but we ended up waking up really late so i don’t know if we’re still gonna do that. monday we’re going to the city and doing some tourist things. tuesday - more tourist things and then going to see RENT on broadway! wednesday we’ll possibly picnic in central park and just walk around that all day looking @ the cool arches and gardens (even though they’re probably all dead!) then that’s it… wow…that’s gonna go by FAST!
anyway…that’s all for now. just thought i’d share some of that. i’m sure u can look forward to a major project coming out of this meeting! we still have 5 days of brainstorming!
happy new year again!
until next time!…

so now that i’ve had a ton of time to sit around and do basically nothing, i’ve been browsing around the web and stuff looking at other people’s domains and blogs and things, and i’ve come to a conclusion: THEY’RE ALL THE SAME! serious. every single site has nearly the same layout, the same content, just different colors! i knwo, i know, “well your site fits that mold, doesn’t it?” you may be saying… yes, yes it does, but i’m trying to change that. when i first went for this whole look, the internet and web design world was reserved for the occasional geek or two who wanted to fiddle around and learn how to code. now with the mass commercialization of blogging, it seems everyone and their brother has taken to this media. it’s kind of upsetting actually. websites have lost their originality. no more cool layouts with things scattered all over hte place, just simple plain ole’ blog layouts. 2 columns: 1 with the blog and the other, a thinner strip with all sorts of other info in it.
so, after realizing that my site fit right into that cookie cutter mold, i went on a bit of a mental rampage. i sat in front of my screen trying to figure out what i could do with this site to make it not fit into that cookie cutter. not for the sake of being different, but for the sake of my own sanity. i liked it when i could click on any given link and have the anticipation of “ohhh i wonder how this page is set up?” now, i click on a link and it think to myself “i wonder what graphic this person uses as a header for their blog” where’s the fun in that?
so, as you can see, less than a week since i put up my last layout, i changed to this one. this one isn’t winter-y, or christmas-y, or anything. it’s just here. and i like it. that’s my dog, buddy. i took that pic of him the other day.
i’m still working on this whole thing. it’s not what i want it to be. i’m also working on a photo gallery, which, coincidentally matched the old layout, so it have to change it already.
you may come across some broken links and things. i was validating my site the other night and i had to redo the navigation scheme for the entire thing, so i may have missed some links along the way. please let me know if you find any!
also, i’m looking for some people to link exchange with. as i’ve said above, i’m really searching for people who don’t have cookie-cutter sites. so if this is you, i’d love to link exchange with you. stick a note in my comments or something. if this isn’t you, stick a note in anyway, i’m open to blog sites too. after all, that’s what i have up now, isn’t it? it would be pretty hypocritical of me not to accept blog link exchanges. lol
anyway, now that you’ve read my rant-type-thing.. thanks for that. i’m off to see how i can fix this site up even more!
thanks for visiting. thanks for commenting
…until next time.

12.13.2005 | ahh winter break

i don’t think i’ve ever been more relaxed! it’s sooo great! i’ve been home since saturday and all i’ve done is make websites! lol i’ve gotten a lot accomplished, actually. I redid alanquinn.com, well, mostly. there’s still some tweaking to be done. and i also bought a domain and made a website for my web design business here. i’m pretty pleased with it. now if only i could get some customers…
i also went to bayonne yesterday. went to STUCO to say hi to everyone, and it just so happened that they had a mini surprise party planned for my “twin”/”little sister” amanda.. so as a joke i hid behind this tiny piece of paper… and before i knew it there was this loud shreak and i was tackled…then everyone started to sing happy birthday and she started to cry. it was cute.
after that a bunch of us went out for pizza and then we decided to pick up our friend Ioanna and go to the movies. we drove all the way to jersey gardens hoping that pride and prejudice was playing, but it wasn’t. so we saw RENT. WHAT AN AMAZING MOVIE! soooo good!
on top of that, my ticket to see RENT on Broadway with natalie just came in today. you can see why i’m so excited!
speaking of natalie…
she’s coming to visit me dec 30th - jan 5th! wooohooo! mentes together?? this could be dangerous! we’re going to the city (aka NYC) and stuff like that. doing the tourist thing. it’s going to be SOOOO much fun!
what else is new?? not much really…1st semester is over and done thankfully. i had great classes (well, except for calc), but after a while, enough was enough. i did OK in calc, now i’m just waiting to find out the rest of my grades.
i think that’s all for now? i can’t think of anything else i wanted to say..
until next time.
