Tours are probably okay, but I found it really exciting and liberating when I was on my Eurotrip to be able to wake up with little to no plan except to explore. We had our city-by-city itinerary planned out, but not our days. I can recommend the websites we used to find flights and hostels and the like if you're interested, and I could talk all day about London and Paris and Madrid/Santander/Barcelona and Dubrovnik. :) Plan it yourself.
