11.18.2008 | prelim time

I have a bit of an addiction to yellow legal pads. For some reason I don’t like notebooks with side-spines and I don’t particularly like white paper. I also require a black, gel-ink pen and headphones. Very high maintenance, but it’s the only thing that keeps me from spending hours on facebook or browsing through photos on flickr.

Tonight marks the last of my prelims before finals and also marks the last of the one-a-week schedule I’ve had almost all semester. Now all that’s standing between me and Thanksgiving break is actually taking the exam, sleeping a lot, finishing up some minor projects and problem sets and have I mentioned sleep?

11.18.2008 | snowfall

We had our first proper snowfall of the season today. It’s finally starting to stick. Despite knowing that this is just the start of it all and that we’ll be trudging through this stuff for the next 4-5 months depending on how much Mother Nature wants to test our wills to live, there’s something magical about the first snow on the season.

It only amounted to about 0.5″, but hey, I’m not complaining.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go make some hot chocolate and study for my prelim tomorrow. Oh Cornell.

11.09.2008 | nerdery

With the cold weather comes more indoor photos. Although I’m a huge fan of natural light, I’m hoping to get a strobe light for Christmas so I can learn to use one properly if necessary.

My eye caught a cool reflection on a pin earlier and I ended up taking a few more shots while I had my macro gear out. I wish I had gotten the “e” a the same angle as the “j” and “n”, but I wasn’t aiming for perfection, I was aiming for procrastination :).

10.30.2008 | regressing

I had a homework assignment due today for my Visual Imaging in the Electronic Age class. It’s the same one that I’ve had to build a scale model of an opera set or draw a scene on campus to perfect perspective. This assignment was all about color: the display of color (gamuts, approximating, etc) and the interaction of color (Albers, color in context, that stuff). The first part was simple, but the 2nd part involved buying some colored paper and demonstrating how the perception of color can vary based on the context.

At least I finally got to use that glue stick I bought back before freshman year!

10.25.2008 | food makes friends

At a Sun Bar Tab a few weeks ago, Ally and I decided we wanted to have a dinner party. After a few weeks of saying “I don’t have time to cook that much” we decided to go for a potluck. Best. Idea. Ever. The potluck was a huge success and it was so nice to meet some new people and have non-geek conversations for a change. Food is a great way to get to know people and it’s so simple. We’re definitely doing it again, but next time with a theme: Breakfast for dinner.
