changing directions

Up until now this blog has been about “what the heck am I going to do with my life?!” There have been countless posts about my journey from wanting to be a biologist, a chemist, a linguistics major, the list goes on. Luckily, for the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to try on some different careers and slowly make my way towards finding the ideal one. This summer, in particular, was really helpful as the Flickr team let me try on some roles outside of my actual internship. One of those was as a Product Manager for some Facebook integration that you can see in both the Flickr and Facebook’s new designs. I had a blast and learned a LOT.

Working Hard

Some offices require expensive video game systems or spa treatments to keep their employees sane. FlickrHQ is a bit different. Early this week we got a a package full of Flickr-colored inner tubes left over from an event in Spain. THANK YOU, SPAIN! Chaos ensued from the moment we opened the packages!

It started out very simple: “ohhh look inner tubes! Let’s try to use them as a Skip It or try to roll them down the hall”, but then creativity kicked in and soon all 8 tubes were inflated and used as everything from chairs to battle weapons to running obstacles, costumes and crash mats. Thus, the Flickrlympics began.

Flickr Blogging

One of the nifty things I get to do as part of my internship is write some posts for the Flickr Blog. I’ve written 3 so far, and let me just say that I have a completely appreciation for the size of the Cornell Daily Sun’s photo archive and for having news stories inform our photo selections.
